Pelton Wheel Turbine is merely impulse water turbine for general use named in honor of Sir L.A. Pelton (1829 - 1908) of California, USA. In this tangential flow impulse turbine, the water thumps the buckets along the tangent of runner. The energy available at the turbine inlet is kinetic energy. The pressure at the turbine inlet & outlet is atmospheric. And this turbine is ideal for high heads.
This set-up consists a runner, and the buckets are fixed on the runner. Water is fed to the turbine by SS nozzle with a SS spear, through Centrifugal Pump tangentially to the runner. Water row into turbine is synchronized by adjusting spear position with the help of a specified hand wheel. Here the runner is mounted on one end of a SS central shaft, and other end is linked to a brake arrangement.
The round window of the turbine casing is supplied with a transparent acrylic sheet for inspection of flow on to the buckets. This assemblage of runner is supported by strong MS structure. With the help of brake dynamometer, the load is employed to the turbine so that efficiency of the turbine is calculated. Pressure gauge is fixed to measure the entire supply head to the turbine.
